Day 27, Carbondale, Rest Day

Ahhh . . . another day of relaxation.  Today was spent doing laundry, eating breakfast at a good “locals” restaurant, seeing the movie The Avengers, and eating dinner at a Mexican restaurant.

Several of us took our bikes in to one of the local bike shops.  I had a new chain put on and one tire remounted (when I changed a flat a couple of weeks ago, I didn’t realize the tires are directional . . . and I’d been “fighting” the tread).

New Tour Member Bio

Steve “Shep” Woolley

Shep, age 61, lives in Antrim, Northern Ireland.  He’s a retired police officer where he had helicopter duty.  Before that he was in the British Navy Air Corp, again, involved with helicopters.  In his spare time, he enjoys reading and biking.

Shep has been given the road name of Thor Hushovd, because of how he blasts up hills.  (The real Thor is a Norwegian professional road bicycle racer riding for BMC Racing Team.  He is known for sprinting and time trialing and is the 2010 Norwegian and world road champion. He is the first Norwegian to lead the Tour de France, and first Scandinavian to win the road race in cycling world road championship.)

Shep could not have a more appropriate nickname!
